It’s plain to see New York City is in a housing crisis. Rents have reached record highs, new construction has grossly failed to keep up with the city’s population growth, and the number of people residing in city shelters on a nightly basis has grown by more than 30% since the beginning of the year to nearly 65,000 residents and climbing.
